Links 'n' Things: Resources
We wanted to make things easy for you, so we streamlined the links that you are most likely to need and use and set 'em up below. If you hear of another great link, let us know!
Community
- Disability Benefits 101.org
- Hosted by the World Institute on Disability, this site is the first you should bookmark! In a nutsell, this site takes the tangled, confusing mess that is the US benefits/health system and helps you make sense of it all. It includes a benefits calculator to boot — plug in your SSI/SSDI numbers and it'll burp out how much you can make and still keep your benefits… and more!
- Disability Rights Advocates (DRA)
- These are the good lawyers down the street. They are the ones to help you when you think something smells like discrimination. They also produce a handy book called Through the Maze, which helps you navigate benefits and more.
- Center for Independent Living (CIL)
- With over 14 helpful programs, they are worth tapping into. They've got Benefits Counseling (including help with PASS plans); the Client Assistance Program (CAP), which helps resolve issues you might have with DOR; and a Youth Program, among others.
- World Institute on Disability (WID)
- As mentioned, they host Disability Benefits 101.org, but they also offer Proyecto Visión; (for Latinos with Disabilities), Access to Assets; and a wealth of resources, information, and links.
- Protection and Advocacy, Inc.
- The cousins of DRA, another good group of people to contact when you think someone's discriminating against you.
- Job Accommodation Network (JAN)
- They've got just about everything on their site: disability-specific resource lists, info on the ADA and accommodation ideas, sample disclosure letters… the list goes on. Check 'em out!
